About The Community Organizers' Initiative

The vision is: Someday soon the 500 best organizers in Massachusetts will be treated with the same respect as the 500 best fundraisers. This is where we will work to make that vision a reality

One of the greatest gifts President Obama has given us - and I think he's given us a lot already - is he uttered the words "community organizer" when the whole world was listening. People everywhere now have a sense of what community organizing is and how it can work to make change.

The Community Organizers' Initiative is for serious and committed community organizers - and people who are passionate about something and recognize that organizing others is the best way to get things done. It is a place for us to come together to share strategies, techniques, and knowledge. We will also provide each other resources and ask for or offer help with each others' efforts.

Regularly we will promote a new campaign that we like to help us learn and work together. Check out (below) the work of Congressman Jim McGovern and the College Democrats of Massachusetts on Darfur as our first example. We'll also work to add training and support from the rich resources of progressive-leaning organizers and organizations that make Massachusetts what it is.

If you are one of those organizers or part of one of those organizations, we hope you'll be part of this. To get involved with us, I am asking you to begin to build your community by setting a goal of organizing 50 people around any issue you are passionate about. You don’t need 50 today - but make a start and set your sights on getting to 50 over the next 2 years by performing the "Recruit others" Action below. Once you complete that action, you will have access to the regular support materials and be able to participate in the ensuing discussions about community organizing.

Recruit and build your personal list

Recruit and build your personal list Use this action to be part of this. Pledge to organize and build your community to 50 people over the next 2 years and you will have access to the tools of TCOI, the regular campaigns and actions as well as to other organizers with whom you can collaborate.

Share Your Memories

We'll miss you, Senator. The Massachusetts Democratic Party is collecting the thoughts, memories and condolences of citizens from around the country and we will deliver them to the Kennedy Family. You can do so online and we are encouraging people to go out into their communities and ask others to participate by signing a condolence page. Click on "Participate".
